Careers and Cocktails Evening

On the evening of Thursday March 20, the Sir Zelman Cowen Centre and Victoria Law School were treated to an evening unlike any other. The Victorian-era interior of our Law School provided an ideal setting for firm representatives and our fellow students to interact and mingle whilst enjoying exquisitely prepared savories and drinks. Private sector firms such as Baker & McKenzie, Allens Arthur Robinson, DLA Phillips Fox, Clayton Utz and Lander & Rogers offered the students an excellent insight into what it is like to work in this field, whilst Victoria Legal Aid and Victorian WorkCover Authority duly represented the public sector.

In his opening address, the VULSS President William Robinson, stressed the importance of being proactive and confident when speaking to members of the legal profession. While our brand new Head of Law at Victoria University, Prof. Andrew Clarke formally opened the evening. In his first formal address to Victoria Law Students, Professor Clarke demonstrated his enthusiasm for developing Victoria University Law School and creating a sense of pride in our fine institution. For those present it was most inspiring.

As the evening progressed, students began to feel at ease when approaching firm representatives and as such they were able to obtain critical information regarding many career related topics.

The Careers and Cocktail evening was a product of outstanding teamwork by the Victoria University Law Students’ Society, which not only set a new benchmark for future events, it also assisted in fostering a culture of shared responsibility among Victoria Law students.

Thank you to all those that attended and assisted in organizing the event.

Thomas D'Souza (IT Officer) was the photographer for the evening.
